A Prayer for this Day

A meditation and prayer written by my best friend, teacher, and wife, Holly Duncan for September 11, 2011:

We reflect on the day itself and the years since its passing.
We mourn all loss of life at the hands of violence and hatred on foreign soil and domestic.
We acknowledge the grief we have suffered and the suffering we have caused.
We ask for forgiveness and the ability to forgive.
We ask to be healed and to be instruments of healing.

Great physician, grant us a heavy dose of prophetic imagination
that we would stir, recognizing anew your desire for love to reign
and that we would be practitioners and dispensers of this radical balm.

"And in the end, the end is oceans and oceans of love and love again.
We'll see how the tears that have fallen were caught in the palms
of the Giver of love and the Lover of all." Amen.
